
The second edition of the National Small Satellite Competition 2025 (CNPS) brought together university students from institutions across Peru to take on the challenge of developing and testing their own CubeSat platforms. Organized by the Instituto de Radioastronomía (INRAS) and the Vicerrectorado de Investigación (VRI) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), the initiative seeks to introduce university students from across the country to the development of space technologies through hands-on experience in the design, construction, and validation of small satellites.
In this edition, more than 100 teams from across the country registered for the competition and took part in a process comprising several stages of development and evaluation. After successfully completing the different phases, 24 teams advanced to the in-person stage, where they had the opportunity to present their projects and test the systems they had developed over the previous months.
The in-person stage took place on August 5, 7, and 8, 2026, at the PUCP campus. During these three days, the finalist teams participated in a series of activities designed to present and evaluate the work they had carried out throughout the competition.
On Wednesday, August 5, activities began with the opening ceremony, followed by a poster exhibition featuring the finalist teams and their projects.
On Friday, August 7, the flight tests were conducted. During this stage, the teams put their CubeSats to the test, evaluating their performance and their ability to meet the objectives established for their respective missions.
Finally, on Saturday, August 8, the closing and awards ceremony was held, marking the conclusion of the second edition of the competition and recognizing the teams that achieved the best results throughout the different stages of evaluation.
The second edition of the National Small Satellite Competition strengthened its role as a space for university students interested in space science and technology to meet, learn, and gain practical experience. The competition allowed participants to strengthen their skills and apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom to the development of small satellite projects.
Through the CNPS, INRAS-PUCP and the Vicerrectorado de Investigación continue to support the education of new generations of professionals and promote the development of capabilities in space science and technology in Peru.
