More than 300 schoolchildren participated in the first edition of the National Small Satellite Competition – Primary School Category

The initiative brought together primary school students from schools in the district of San Miguel, who expressed through drawing how they imagine “Peru in Space.” Of all the artworks submitted, 150 were selected as finalists and exhibited on the PUCP campus.

The first edition of the 2026 National Small Satellite Competition – Primary School Category brought together more than 300 students from first through sixth grade from different schools in the district of San Miguel.

The initiative was organized by the Instituto de Radioastronomía (INRAS), the Vicerrectorado de Investigación (VRI), the Dirección Académica de Responsabilidad Social (DARS), and the Facultad de Ciencias e Ingeniería of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), together with the Municipalidad Distrital de San Miguel.

The competition aimed to foster artistic creativity around space exploration, encourage interest in science and technology through art, and bring students, families, and teachers together in an experience that invited them to reflect on Peru’s role in space and in the future of scientific exploration.

Under the theme “Peru in Space,” each participant created an original drawing representing, from their own perspective, how they imagine Peru in space. Participants were divided into three categories according to grade level: Little Astronauts, for first and second grade; Explorers of the Universe, for third and fourth grade; and Guardians of the Cosmos, for fifth and sixth grade.

Following the evaluation process, 150 students were selected as finalists. Their artworks were featured in an exhibition held on the PUCP campus, as established in the competition guidelines.

To mark the conclusion of this first edition, an awards ceremony was held at PUCP on August 29, bringing together the finalist students, their families, teachers, coordinators, and representatives of the organizing institutions. During the event, the finalist drawings were exhibited and the winners of the three categories were recognized.

Students from Colegio Mater Admirabilis, I.E. N.° 1086 Jesús Redentor, I.E.P. Santo Domingo El Apóstol, Colegio Claretiano, Colegio Inglés de Varones San Charbel, and I.E. N.° 0003 Nuestra Señora del Carmen participated in this first edition.
