The Ionosonde project aims to develop an ionospheric sounding radar based on Software Defined Radio (SDR) devices to characterize the upper layers of the atmosphere. Implementing this technology in software simplifies the radar development process, allowing for the application of Spread-Spectrum techniques without the need for hardware changes. This sounding system will measure density profiles in the equatorial Peruvian ionosphere and seek to anticipate phenomena such as F-dispersal, which affects satellite communication signals and navigation systems. The long-term goal is to establish a network of these radars to create an ionospheric monitoring center that provides crucial information about extreme geo-space events.
